WES Case Analysis - EP10 How to evaluate Chinese Degrees
EP10: how a foreigner gets a Chinese degree evaluated: where to start without Chinese, expired passports, what CHSI is, which name to use, and how long the report takes.
WES (U.S. and Canada), CES, Qualification Check and CHSI/CSSD retrieval, led by founder Zhou Beichen. We specialise in hard cases for overseas Chinese, international students who studied in China, and immigration and study-abroad agencies.

Foreigners with a Chinese bachelor’s, master’s or PhD who struggle with Chinese-language systems, passport-number mismatches or a degree CHSI cannot find.
Hand over the error-prone, time-consuming evaluation step to specialists, with a steady contact, transparent progress and protected client data.

Canadian immigration usually needs an ECA from an IRCC-designated organisation. WES and CES are both options. We check your requirements and credential type first, then advise which fits better.
Work starts within 1–3 days once documents are complete. We call instead of leaving you waiting on email.
Chinese degrees, vocational and high-school credentials, overseas degrees, the U.S. and Canada: we have done them all, and we know how hard it can be for international students.
We delete your files after the case and keep them away from third parties. We are as conscious of privacy as you are.
We check everything before submitting, to minimise rework and rejected submissions instead of learning by trial and error.
Each one has a real case video.
We start with a call to understand your degree, school, purpose and blockers, not a long form.
You get a clear document checklist. If an English transcript is missing we translate it and ask the school to stamp it; we help prepare supporting letters where needed.
We help register WES / CES and CHSI/CSSD accounts (or you register and hand them over), then submit the documents and start the evaluation.
Progress is transparent. We check status for you and, when needed, contact the evaluator, the school or CHSI by email or phone.
We deliver the report PDF and send it to schools or institutions as requested. If the result is disputed, we handle the communication.

Do name changes or different transliterations matter on a WES report? Three real cases show how WES treats different names and school misspellings.

Does WES raise or lower your GPA? Real cases: 2.4 up to 2.8, 3.6 down to 3.0, and the effect of political-theory courses.
Vocational school closed, no email, no documents? Pre-briefing the school let WES reach the right mailbox and finish in one pass.
Need a credential check for Hong Kong talent schemes? Qualification Check took about two days in this case, at less than half the cost of WES.
A 90 was typed as 0 on a transcript. The dean supported the fix but the archive refused. How it was finally corrected by going around the archive.
You can register a CHSI/CSSD account with a non-Chinese number, though SMS codes sometimes fail. A Chinese number remains the most reliable route.

I’m Zhou Beichen, founder of Beichen Light. I studied across the UK, Switzerland and China, so I know how painful cross-border credential evaluation can be. I treat it as a small but critical job, and I do it carefully.
Every credential is different, so we quote per case. To be candid, our prices are higher than budget agents because you are buying founder-led handling, phone-first communication, hard-case experience and real care for your privacy.
They serve different purposes. WES is one of the IRCC-designated ECA organisations for Canada and is widely accepted by U.S. universities and employers. CES sits within the University of Toronto and is also an IRCC-designated ECA organisation. Qualification Check is recognised by the Hong Kong Immigration Department and is often used for QMAS and Top Talent Pass applications.
Which one you need depends on who is asking for the evaluation. See the comparison guide, or contact us and we will check.
WES cannot judge by itself whether a Chinese transcript or degree is genuine, so it works with Chinese verification bodies. CHSI/CSSD and the degree centre verify first; that is why a WES report shows “Documents verified by CSSD”. A Chinese degree therefore usually needs CHSI verification, a degree verification report, and materials sent on to WES.
From our experience: CHSI verification about 18 working days (varies in holidays; sometimes a week), EMS to WES about 3–5 working days, WES evaluation about 7 working days. A typical total is about six weeks, and about four weeks when everything goes smoothly. Cases that need school verification, such as vocational or closed schools, take longer. These figures are historical experience, not a promise.
Not necessarily. WES weights major courses more heavily and non-core courses (PE, political theory and similar) less. Students with strong major grades and weak general-course grades may rise noticeably; others may fall. We have seen 2.4 rise to 2.8, and 3.6 fall to 3.0. See this guide.
Often yes. Name changes, different romanisations, or a wrong character in the school’s record are usually not blockers when documents are complete. The key is finding the name the school filed with CSSD and, where needed, a letter from the school. See the names and passport guide.
It can be attempted. Approaches include finding which body now holds the records, asking WES to send a paper verification letter, or, where it applies, verifying the gaokao score report through CHSI to simplify the process. Outcomes depend on the case, so we assess first and then quote. See the vocational and high-school guide.
